A man has been accused of planning to kill police officers and the mayor of Yonkers, along with a threat to do it along the St Patrick’s Day Parade route.

The accused, 32-year-old Ridon Kola, had allegedly been worshipping the Islamic State for months on social media and directly messaged the Yonkers police department, writing about crucifying them and their bosses.

Kola was arrested after posting a photo on social media holding an ax with a caption saying he was waiting for someone.

Federal prosecutors say they have foiled his plot and the parade will go ahead as planned with promised extra security measures.

Kola faces a maximum of five years in prison if convicted of Interstate Communications charges.
