Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Moscow on Monday for a three-day visit to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
This visit comes at a time when Putin is facing increased isolation due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the shadow of indictments against him.
China has not condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine nor issued sanctions against the Kremlin, making this visit a strong political boost for Putin.
However, US leaders are skeptical of China’s motivation and warn that any peace talks supported by China would benefit Russia.
Meanwhile, the US is sending $350 million in weapons and equipment to support Ukraine in the ongoing war.
Despite the absence of Ukrainian President Zelinski at the meeting, the White House is urging China’s leader to reach out to Zelinski directly to avoid a one-sided meeting.
