Trinity Moravian Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, has forgiven nearly $3.3 million in medical debt for more than 3,300 families in Davidson, Davie, and Yadkin counties.
The church partnered with R.I.P.
Medical Debt, an organization that purchases medical debt for pennies on the dollar, to relieve the burden of families struggling to pay off medical bills.
This isn’t the first time Trinity Moravian Church has undertaken such a project; last summer, the church helped pay off medical debt in Forsyth County and Davidson County.
Reverend John Jackman hopes that the church can continue to lift the burden of medical debt from families one county at a time.
Trinity Moravian Church plans to hold a debt burning ceremony this Sunday to celebrate the project.
