Norfolk Southern is facing a lawsuit from Sharita Fields, the widow of Walter Griffin, a train conductor who died on the job in December.
Fields alleges that Norfolk Southern failed to carry out safety checks that could have prevented Griffin’s death.
Griffin was killed when a piece of metal on a stationary car on the next truck over crashed into the cab of his train.
Another conductor was also seriously injured in the incident.
Fields and her attorney, Gerald Brooks, hope that the lawsuit will hold Norfolk Southern accountable for the alleged lack of safety checks and prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
Norfolk Southern has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
