Westfield Police Officer Injured After Being Hit by Vehicle on Western Ave

A police officer in Westfield, Massachusetts, was hit by a vehicle while working at a traffic detail on Western Avenue on Tuesday morning.

According to Westfield police captain Steve Dickinson, the officer is in pain but is speaking.

The officer’s name has not yet been released, and it’s unclear if the driver who hit the officer will face charges.

Police had blocked off Western Avenue from Highland to Noble Hospital after the crash, but have since opened it up for the most part with construction continuing.

The officer was taken to Bay State Medical Center in Springfield for treatment.

Peter Miller, a resident of the area, stated that he finds it more dangerous to walk around the construction site, and reminds people to be cautious and take it slow around construction sites.

Westfield police are urging people to take it slow and drive carefully around construction sites to protect both officers and construction workers.

Further updates on the officer’s condition and the investigation into the incident are yet to be announced.
