West Sacramento Family Wins Fight to Keep Home from Being Demolished

After months of uncertainty, the Sanchez family in West Sacramento can finally breathe a sigh of relief as their home will not be demolished.

The family has owned the property for over 80 years, and concerns were raised late last year that it could be destroyed as part of the I Street Bridge redevelopment plans.

Initially, plans for the redevelopment called for the removal of the multi-generational family home, which prompted Mike Sanchez and his family to speak out to the community and the government for help.

In response to public outcry, the city decided to go with a different plan that would not involve demolishing the Sanchez home.

This week, the West Sacramento City Council approved the necessary environmental documentation and engineering plans to move forward with the new plan, which means the Sanchez family can keep their home.

Sanchez expressed his gratitude to the staff and community, stating that he and his family are excited to see the new plan come to fruition in their backyard.
