Transitional Improvements: Helping Homeless & Formerly Incarcerated Grocery Store Shooting; 1 Injured, 1 in Custody

Residents in South Suburban Blue Island are facing a water shut off just before Thanksgiving due to their landlord’s unpaid water bills. A rally is being planned by neighbors to take action against this issue. The current unpaid water bill exceeds $850,000.

Those living in the mobile homes park have received notices stating that their water will be disconnected on November 20th. They were blindsided by this news as they believed that the water bill was included in their rent.

It was discovered that the landlord hasn’t paid the water bill since March. An attorney intends to file an emergency restraining order against the city and property management company to prevent the shut off. The city has provided flyers outlining available State and County programs that can assist residents in finding shelter, however, there is insufficient time for residents to relocate. The lack of advance notice from the city about the situation has left the residents confused and frustrated.

The rally is scheduled for 9:00 this morning, and the concerns will also be raised at a Blue Island city council meeting scheduled for Tuesday. The city has been contacted for a comment but has not responded yet..
