This morning, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office assisted the United States Marshall Southeast Regional fugitive task force in searching for a wanted fugitive from Pennsylvania. The Sheriff’s Office provided pictures from the scene and revealed that Rakim Jones was wanted for attempted homicide in 2022. Jones was ultimately apprehended in the Ivy Falls subdivision. In a separate incident, Keon Dickens has been indicted in federal court for making a bomb threat against the Social Security Administration’s office in Augusta.
The indictment states that Dickens called the office and threatened to use an explosive device, even showing a handwritten note to a security officer. As a result, the building was locked down and evacuated, although no bomb was found.
Dickens now faces charges of false information and bomb hoax. Today, there will be a presentation discussing plans to relocate students within Columbia County. The proposal suggests closing South Columbia Elementary at the end of this school year, while preparing for the opening of Westmont Elementary.
Additionally, North Columbia Elementary is expected to open for the 2025-2026 school year on Ray Owens Road. The meeting will take place at Martinez Elementary at 6:00 PM. Another presentation will be held on Thursday and again next Tuesday for those who miss this opportunity. Furthermore, today is election day, featuring important decisions on the ballot.
This includes a mayoral race in Grovetown and several other mayoral and city council races in Akens. Additionally, the future of the jba will be determined through a yes or no vote. Voting will be open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and updates on the results will be available on-air and online at wdw.com..
