Walmart has launched its drone delivery service at select locations in Tampa Bay, Florida.
The service, which is being operated through tech company DroneUp, is currently available at six local Walmarts and can be used to deliver thousands of different products weighing up to 10 pounds.
Customers can place their orders online and a drone will be programmed to fly a pre-approved route, hover 80 feet up, and then lower down the items within 30 minutes.
The delivery fee is $4 and there are fail-safes in place to prevent any abnormalities during the process.
While the service is in its early phase, Walmart plans to expand it to include more stores, drones, and autonomous vehicles in the future.
The company hopes that this technology will become the norm and integrate into people’s daily lives, making their lives easier.
