A fire broke out in a high-rise building in Waikiki early this morning, causing residents to evacuate.

The fire started in the trash chute of the Harbor Tower at the intersection of Atkinson Drive and Ala Wai Boulevard just after midnight.

When the Honolulu Fire Department arrived on the scene, they didn’t see any visible flames or smoke from outside the building, but discovered the fire was in the trash chute.

It took them just over an hour to extinguish the fire using different techniques.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.
