Intense Winds Cause Widespread Damage, Leave Thousands Without Power in Yolo County

A multi-million dollar beachfront home in Virginia Beach was heavily damaged in a fire early Friday morning, with the cause still under investigation by the Virginia Beach Fire Department.

The blaze took around three hours to put out after crews were called to the Oceanfront Avenue property between 50th and 51st streets at 3am.

Smoke still hung over the property more than 12 hours later, with fire crews remaining on site to investigate and put out sparks.

While the property, which was sold for around $4 million in 2021, was badly damaged, neighbors are grateful it wasn’t worse.

They said that if winds had been blowing from the side instead of toward the beach, the entire block could have been lost.

No one was living in the house at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
