In Milwaukee County, a gathering was held this morning to honor veterans, including those from previous generations. Fox 6 photojournalist myON Jacobs takes us to the Headstone dedication ceremony at the county grounds.
It is a gratifying feeling to know that our entire family has been recognized, from the time of the Civil War to the present day, acknowledging our military heritage. It is crucial for people to understand that the reason we are here today is because of the sacrifices made by individuals throughout history, particularly those who served in the Civil War. We owe our freedoms to the veterans, and they deserve continuous recognition. Herman Borgart explains that it is because of their past actions that we can enjoy the privileges we have today. While only a few fortunate individuals like Charles Bender have been identified and reconnected with our community, many others remain nameless.
It is essential for us to know and acknowledge all those who were here, as each person deserves to be remembered by their name, not just a number. In a solemn moment, a flag is presented as a symbol of honor. Accepting the flag, the speaker expresses their gratitude and mentions how they already have their brothers’ and father’s flags displayed proudly at home. This new flag will join them in a special place.
The satisfaction of knowing that every member of the family has been recognized is deeply comforting..
