Two Verizon technicians are being hailed as heroes after they saved a family and their dog from a house fire in Newport News.
Nick Christian and Chris Leonard were working on upgrading internet services in the neighborhood when they noticed smoke coming from a nearby home.
Thinking quickly, the pair collected water bottles and a garden hose to try to put out the fire.
When they realized the fire was spreading, they knocked on the door to alert anyone inside.
They helped the family, including three adults, a small child, and a dog, to safety before the Newport News Fire Department arrived to put out the flames.
The fire department credited the quick thinking of the technicians with saving the family’s home, and the incident serves as a reminder to always pay attention to your surroundings.
