Two Verizon Technicians Save Family and Dog from House Fire in Newport News
Two Verizon technicians in Newport News are being hailed as heroes after saving a family and their dog from a house fire.
The technicians, Nick Christian and Chris Leonard, were working on upgrading internet for other customers when they noticed smoke billowing out of a house.
They quickly jumped into action, collecting water bottles from their cars and pouring water around the fire.
However, the fire continued to spread, and Leonard grabbed a nearby garden hose to spray the house.
Christian then had a plan to get the people inside the house out to safety.
He noticed a light through the front door and started banging and calling 911 until someone unlocked the door.
The two technicians helped get three adults, a small child, and a dog out of the burning home before the Newport News fire department arrived.
The fire department credits the technicians’ quick thinking for helping to save the family.
According to Leonard, the fire department said that five more minutes in the house would have completely burned it down.
The incident is a reminder to constantly pay attention to one’s surroundings, and their awareness helped get the family out of their burning home.
The family and their dog were unharmed, thanks to the quick thinking and heroic actions of these two Verizon technicians.
