Transitional Improvements: Helping Homeless & Formerly Incarcerated Grocery Store Shooting; 1 Injured, 1 in Custody

Retired Lieutenant Colonel John Meers, a US Marine Corps veteran, joins us now. Lieutenant Colonel, thank you for joining us.

Let’s dive right into the topic of the hospital. The strategic advantage for Israel in taking control of a hospital with a potential Hamas headquarters underneath is significant. However, the impact on civilian casualties cannot be overlooked.

It is clear that Hamas has considered this as a tactic. As a battlefield commander, could you explain how challenging it would be to undertake an operation like this, where civilians are being used as a shield? Firstly, I’d like to thank you for having me here today and wish Joey a belated happy birthday.

Middle Eastern terror groups, as well as some Middle Eastern militaries, have shown no hesitation in using hospitals, schools, and civilians as shields for their military operations. This was evident on October 7th when kindergartens were targeted during terrorist attacks in Israel. This battle is primarily an engineering challenge. The IDF’s engineering officers are facing the difficult task of dealing with tunnels and military headquarters set up beneath hospitals.

It will be extremely challenging to locate and neutralize these headquarters without causing collateral damage, which is exactly what Hamas intends. It’s important to understand that Hamas initiated this conflict with a political objective in mind. Their aim is to regain victim status, and they have little regard for civilian and fighter casualties.

Their fight is for the future of Hamas ideology and the next generation of fighters who will grow up with a hatred for Israel. You mentioned the political aspect of this conflict, and I understand you are currently running for Congress in Virginia. As a potential decision maker on how we support foreign wars and our own wars, what is your perspective on the role of our government and Department of Defense in funding Israel’s efforts? Personally, I believe that we should only engage in warfare in three instances: to defend our homeland from an attack, to defend the homeland of our tier one allies, and to stop genocide.

Israel, without a doubt, falls under the category of a tier one ally. It is essential for the United States government to provide financial support to ensure Israel’s ability to defend itself against attacks. We must remember that they are surrounded by enemies on all sides. It is our duty to stand by our ally during their most challenging times.

This current situation is undoubtedly one of the toughest they have ever faced. Thank you for joining us, Lieutenant Colonel and congressional candidate. Happy birthday, and thank you for your service in the Marines.
