Two Children Fall from NYC Buildings, Sparking Concern for Window Guard Safety
Two separate incidents of children falling from windows in New York City on Sunday have raised concerns over window guard safety in the city.
The first incident involved a three-year-old child falling from the sixth floor of a New York City Housing Authority building in Chelsea, Manhattan.
The child was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.
Police report that window guards were not present at the time of the incident.
The second incident occurred in Far Rockaway, Queens, where a two-year-old girl fell from a fifth-floor window.
Thankfully, the child was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Again, window guards were not present at the time of the fall.
Neighbors in the affected communities have expressed their concern, with one resident stating, “if you have children, you suppose they are gods.
That’s the law.” The New York City Housing Authority has issued a statement saying that they are supporting the families affected and that window guards were installed when the Chelsea family moved into the apartment earlier this year.
The incidents have sparked an ongoing investigation into the safety of window guards in New York City.
Despite regulations requiring landlords to provide window guards in apartments with children under the age of 10, reports indicate that many landlords are not complying with these regulations.
As the investigation continues, many are hoping that measures will be taken to ensure the safety of children in high-rise buildings throughout the city.
