Trump Lawyers Face Legal Troubles as Investigations Continue
Former President Donald Trump is facing a series of investigations, including one related to the January 6th insurrection and another into his handling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago.
As a result, he needs a strong defense team, but his lawyers keep facing legal troubles themselves.
One of his lawyers, Evan Corcoran, representing him in the classified documents investigation, has been forced to testify under the crime-fraud exception to attorney-client privilege.
A judge ruled that he must testify despite being Trump’s lawyer, as there is reason to believe he aided his client in committing a crime.
Joe Tacopina, another Trump lawyer, is facing potential conflict of interest problems in the Manhattan DA’s hush money investigation related to Trump’s payouts to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
Tacopina claimed in 2018 media appearances that Daniels approached him to represent her, which could disqualify him from representing Trump in the case.
However, Tacopina’s representative denies that he ever met with Daniels and that someone else approached him on her behalf.
The potential conflict between Tacopina and Daniels could explain why prosecutors in the Manhattan DA’s office recently spoke with her.
Meanwhile, law enforcement in New York City is reportedly preparing a security plan for the Manhattan Criminal Court in anticipation of Trump being indicted as soon as next week.
If indicted, Tacopina has said that Trump will surrender himself to authorities.
With his lawyers facing legal troubles of their own, Trump’s defense team is far from rock solid, and the investigations into his actions continue.
