The trial of former Chicago Alderman Ed Burke is finally underway at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse, nearly 5 years after charges were first filed. Burke is facing 14 felony counts, including bribery, racketeering, and extortion.

Before opening statements can begin, prosecutors and defense attorneys must agree on 12 jurors and four alternates, which could happen on Wednesday. The trial is expected to take six weeks and should conclude around the holidays, coinciding with Burke’s 80th birthday. In a courtroom in New York City, former President Trump testified for more than three hours in his $250 million civil fraud trial.

Trump clashed with the judge, who repeatedly admonished him for straying off topic. The outcome of this case threatens Trump’s business empire in New York. Professor Steven Kendro from North Central College joins us to analyze the situation. He predicts that the trial will wrap up soon, with Ivanka Trump set to testify tomorrow.

While it is a civil case, there is a possibility of criminal charges related to the testimony. Kendro believes there will be no surprises during Ivanka’s testimony, as the judge has already ruled in favor of fraud.

The focus now is on determining the costs and potential consequences for the Trump organization. Since the trial is expected to last until December, it could impact the Trump 2024 campaign. With multiple ongoing proceedings and trials, it becomes challenging for Trump to mount a proper defense while also campaigning for the presidency.
