In a tragic incident in Jamaica, Queens, a toddler lost his life in a house fire that broke out in the attic.
The devastating event unfolded in a multigenerational family’s home on 106th Avenue near Pine Grove Street.
The 2.5-year-old victim, Jason Eli, was found on the second floor, and heart-wrenching pictures taken just the day before on Mother’s Day show him alive and well.
Eyewitness News reporter Derick Waller, who was on the scene, shared the heart-wrenching details.
According to Julianne Kelly, the victim’s grandmother, the child’s mother bravely attempted to rescue her son but was overwhelmed by the intense flames.
She managed to save her oldest child but was unable to reach the youngest through the wall of fire and smoke.

Fire investigators arrived at the scene early in the morning to determine the cause of the fire, which started shortly before 11:00 PM.
A doorbell camera from across the street captured the harrowing moments following the fire’s ignition, along with the distressing screams of those nearby.
The neighbors expressed their shock and hoped to never witness such a tragedy again, noting that the building’s predominantly wooden structure quickly fueled the flames.
The Red Cross offered assistance to the grieving family, providing temporary accommodation.
However, their primary concern is the loss they have suffered, as a house can be rebuilt, but the precious life of Jason Eli cannot be recovered.
As news unfolded, it was revealed that the Department of Buildings had initiated an investigation into the property.
Inspectors discovered several illegal subdivisions, deeming the building unsafe.
Consequently, a full vacate order was issued, prohibiting anyone from reentering the premises.
The heartbreaking incident has shaken the community, as multiple generations of the same family resided in the home.
