A tragic incident in Hawaiʻi Kai has resulted in the death of a bicyclist, marking the 26th traffic-related fatality on Oʻahu in 2023.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, the cyclist was struck by a vehicle last night while attempting to cross Kalanianaole Highway.

Although he was in a marked crosswalk, it was not his designated turn to cross.

The severity of the collision left the bicyclist in critical condition, and despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

Comparatively, this year’s fatality count has already surpassed the figures from the same period in 2022, where there were 18 reported fatalities.

As the community mourns this loss, another beloved local establishment prepares to close its doors.
