A devastating house fire in West Baltimore has claimed the lives of three young children, with two adults currently in critical condition, according to officials.

The fire broke out just after 2:30 am on Saturday, leaving those inside with no chance of escape.

Fire crews arrived at the scene in three minutes, but were unable to save the children.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott spoke on the tragedy, stating that no parent or community member should have to experience such a devastating loss.

This fire follows a string of deadly fires in Baltimore, prompting officials to urge residents to have a fire safety plan and to ensure they have working smoke detectors in their homes.

Fire crews will be going door to door to check for smoke detectors, which can be obtained for free by calling 3-1-1.

The names and ages of the children have not yet been released.
