This morning, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office assisted the United States Marshall Southeast Regional fugitive task force in searching for a wanted fugitive named Rakim Jones from Pennsylvania. The Sheriff’s Office provided some pictures from the scene. Jones had a warrant for attempted homicide from back in 2022.
Authorities eventually located Jones in the Ivy Falls subdivision. In another case, a man named Keon Dickens has been indicted in federal court for making a bomb threat at the Social Security Administration’s office in Augusta.
According to the indictment, Dickens called the office and threatened to use an explosive device against the building and its workers. He also showed a handwritten note to a security officer, stating that he had a bomb. As a result, the building had to be locked down and evacuated, although no bomb was found. Dickens is now facing two counts of false information, a bomb hoax, and additional charges. Today, there will be a meeting to discuss plans for relocating students in Columbia County.
The proposal includes closing South Columbia Elementary at the end of the current school year, as well as preparing for the opening of Westmont Elementary. In addition, North Columbia Elementary is expected to open on Ray Owens Road for the 2025-2026 school year. The meeting will take place at Martinez Elementary at 6:00 PM. If you are unable to attend this session, there will be another meeting on Thursday and again next Tuesday. Furthermore, today is election day, and there are important decisions to be made.
This includes a mayoral race in Grovetown and various other mayor and city council races in Akens. Additionally, there will be voting on the future of the JBA (unspecified).
The voting hours are from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and we will provide updates on the results both on-air and online at wdw.com..
