This morning, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office collaborated with the United States Marshall Southeast Regional fugitive task force to search for a wanted fugitive from Pennsylvania. Rakim Jones, who was wanted for attempted homicide in 2022, was located in the ivy Falls subdivision. In another incident, Keon Dickens has been indicted in federal court for making a bomb threat against the Social Security Administration’s office in Augusta.
He allegedly called the office, threatening to use an explosive device and also showed a handwritten note to a security officer. The building was subsequently placed on lockdown and evacuated, but no bomb was found.
Dickens is facing charges of false information and a bomb hoax. There are plans to reorganize students in Columbia County, including the closure of South Columbia Elementary and the opening of Westmont Elementary and North Columbia Elementary in the coming years.
