2-Year-Old Boy Fatally Hit by Car in West Houston: Police Provide Update
HOUSTON – In a tragic incident on Sunday night, a 2-year-old boy was hit and killed by a car in west Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
Sergeant David Rose from the Specular Crimes Division provided an update on the ongoing investigation.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:34 PM in the parking lot of an apartment complex located at 6031 Ranchester.
The young boy, identified as a white male, was struck by a vehicle.
The police believe the vehicle involved in the incident is a red sedan; however, specific details about the crash are still scarce due to the lack of definitive witnesses.
“We do have a suspect in custody whom we believe was the person that struck him,” said Sergeant Rose.
However, obtaining precise information regarding the incident has proven difficult thus far.
The police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
The 2-year-old victim was rushed to Texas Children’s Hospital but succumbed to his injuries from the crash.
Preliminary findings suggest that the sedan ran over the child while reversing and subsequently fled the scene.
Through investigative efforts and collaboration with patrol units, the police were able to identify a suspect believed to be responsible for the collision.
The individual is currently in custody, and authorities are planning to interview him regarding the hit-and-run.
“We are working diligently to gather photos and collect as much evidence as possible to ensure that the right person is apprehended and justice is served in this case,” stated Sergeant Rose.
The mother of the child was present at the scene, but she did not witness the crash as she was nearby.
One of the child’s siblings is also at the hospital, providing support to the grieving family.
The investigation is still ongoing, and the police are not disclosing any further details at this time.
