The third annual Eric Silva Memorial golf tournament is taking place this weekend at the Barbara Worth Country Club in Hopeville.

The event is being hosted by American Legion Post 138 to honor Silva, a Holtville resident and marine who was killed in the Iraq War in 2003.

The tournament not only pays homage to Silva but also to all veterans who have served in our wars.

All money raised from the event will go towards helping veterans.

Silva’s family members say he joined the military to gain experience to join the police force, but even though he didn’t get the chance to serve through law enforcement, he’s still making an impact through this memorial event.

Almost 100 golfers have signed up for the tournament so far, with more expected on the day.

Monetary donations are also welcome, and the event is expected to be a success, with bigger prizes and better preparation than last year.

The tournament is scheduled to begin at 7 A.M.
