A suspected stalker has killed a podcaster and her husband in their home in Redmond, Washington.
The gunman, identified as 38-year-old Rameen from Texas, broke into the couple’s home through a bedroom window before shooting the wife in the master bedroom.
The woman’s mother, who was also in the house, managed to escape and call the police.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the husband in the doorway, but he collapsed and died soon after.
The gunman was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to court documents, the suspect and the victim had met on a podcast chat app called Clubhouse, and their communication took a dark turn, with the suspect making up to 100 calls a day and even threatening to burn himself and a tree outside the couple’s home.
The victim had filed a petition for a protection order on March 3rd, but it was difficult to serve Rameen because he was a long-haul truck driver who traveled across the country for work.
Police Chief Daryl Lowe said that the victim did everything she could to protect herself, including adding extra surveillance cameras to her home.
However, a restraining order is just a piece of paper, and it cannot protect a person when someone is intent on causing harm.
This is the first homicide in Redmond since 2021.
