The Department of Public Safety (DPS) in Texas has issued a warning to all U.S.
citizens to avoid traveling into Mexico due to the ongoing violence and criminal activity in the country.
The warning comes as many Americans are preparing to go on spring break vacations.
According to the DPS, drug cartel violence and other criminal activities pose a significant threat to anyone who crosses the border into Mexico.
The warning was issued after four Americans were kidnapped while traveling in Matamoros, Mexico.
Two of the victims were killed by their captors.
The Mexican government has promised an investigation into the incident, and so far, six people have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping.
The DPS is advising U.S.
citizens to avoid all nonessential travel to Mexico until the situation improves.
