Five teenagers have been arrested in Portsmouth following an assault that took place at a local elementary school playground.
The incident came to light after a video of the assault circulated on social media, leading to the identification of three juvenile suspects.
Subsequently, a fourth and fifth juvenile were apprehended, with the latter being charged for an alleged retaliatory assault the day after the initial incident.
According to Portsmouth School Superintendent Thomas Kenworth, the assault on a 15-year-old victim occurred on May 5th, after school hours, at the Hathaway Elementary School playground.
The arrested juveniles, all residents of Portsmouth, are between the ages of 13 and 15.
In addition to this incident, Superintendent Kenworth mentioned a separate altercation over the weekend involving older students confronting younger students at Hathaway Elementary School.
Consequently, Portsmouth police have decided to increase patrols at schools in response to the recent events.
