A teenage girl was shot and killed by police in Lakewood on Monday after she and another teenage girl robbed a postal worker at gunpoint.
The incident occurred near Alameda Avenue and Owens Street, where police found one of the suspects after a 911 call came in from a neighbor.
The mailman was unharmed and called for help from a neighbor’s house.
Police say the two armed teenagers stole some items from the mailman’s truck before fleeing the scene.
A woman who lives on the same street shared a video from her ring camera, which captured the sound of gunfire.
Officers found one of the suspects about a block away near the Grease Monkey.
The young female suspect allegedly pointed a gun at officers, and they fired their guns in response.
It is unclear whether the suspect pulled the trigger.
The injured suspect was tended to by agents, and life-saving measures were performed.
However, she later died at the hospital.
The second suspect fled the scene, but ATF agents and Lakewood officers found her about 40 minutes away in Weld County.
The Lakewood officer who was hit by gunfire is expected to make a full recovery.
Police say the incident is under investigation, and it is unclear who fired the shot that hit the officer.
