Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards is scheduled to deliver a ‘State of the City’ address later today, with a focus on building a better future for the community.

However, the city is still dealing with issues such as crime, homelessness, and recovery from the pandemic.

Recent data shows that there have been seven homicides so far this year, which is on pace with the same time period last year.

However, the city experienced its most violent year on record in 2022, with 45 homicides.

Tacoma’s police chief recently announced that the department has been working on a violent crime reduction plan for the last six months, which has resulted in a 36% decrease in violent crime incidents.

However, stolen car incidents have increased by over 36%.

Pierce County Executive Bruce Dem Meyer has also addressed the region’s concerns about rising homicides and property crimes, and has discussed plans to combat these issues, including investing in deputy staffing and providing housing for people experiencing homelessness.

The ‘State of the City’ address is scheduled to take place tonight at Mount Tahoma High School at 6:30 pm.
