At 42 years old, I had never noticed the gun pointed at my face until I saw the surveillance video of a robbery in my store. The incident occurred in Philadelphia’s old section on Masher Street. The video shows masked suspects robbing the owner of Bailey’s pizza shop at gunpoint. They demanded whatever they wanted, and I complied, knowing I had three kids and did not want any harm to come to them.
It’s a tough situation. The police report that four suspects arrived in a white SUV, possibly a GMC Acadia. They took money from two employees and $3,000 from the cash register.
Although the robbery took place on October 9th, the police have just released the video in hopes of finding information about the suspects who are still at large. We are hoping someone will come forward with information and help us feel safe as business owners and residents of this neighborhood.
We have a big school nearby, and there are children in this area, so it is crucial for us to feel secure. Police also report that on the same morning and approximately half a mile away, a 22-year-old man waiting for a bus was ordered into a white SUV by armed suspects. The suspects demanded his belongings and ATM pin. Surveillance video shows the suspects using the victim’s ATM card at a location in North Philadelphia.
Our hope is that the mayor will take action to make our city safer. We love Philly, and it is a great city, but we need to feel comfortable and secure here.
