Spokesperson Slams Paparazzi for Reckless Pursuit of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s spokesperson strongly criticized photographers for their relentless pursuit, which resulted in a near catastrophic car chase lasting for two hours.
While multiple law enforcement sources claim that the couple was followed rather than chased, the incident has raised concerns about the safety and privacy of the royal couple.
NBC News reporters Gabe Gutierrez and Keir Simmons provide more details on the incident.
According to the spokesperson, the aggressive paparazzi engaged in a high-speed chase, causing multiple near collisions involving other drivers, pedestrians, and even two NYPD officers.
The spokesperson referred to the incident as a near catastrophic car chase orchestrated by a ring of highly aggressive photographers.
Law enforcement sources, however, suggest that the situation was chaotic but not as severe as initially reported.
The couple, who had private security, was leaving a charity event when they encountered the paparazzi.
They requested to return to Manhattan’s Upper East Side, where they were staying, and expressed their concerns about being followed by the photographers.
As a result, law enforcement sources state that the couple was driven around Manhattan for over an hour with a police escort before being taken to a police precinct.
From there, they were picked up by a taxi.
Despite differing accounts of the incident, the NYPD stated that there were no reported collisions, injuries, or arrests.
It is worth noting that Prince Harry has a personal connection to such events, as he lost his mother, Princess Diana, in a tragic car accident while being pursued by paparazzi.
The incident has sparked discussions about the invasive nature of paparazzi culture and the need for stricter regulations to protect the privacy and safety of public figures.
While there is reportedly security footage capturing the encounter, it has not yet been released to the public.
This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by high-profile individuals in maintaining their privacy and safety in the face of relentless media attention.
