Despite Evacuation Orders, Some Modesto Residents Stay Put as Tuolumne River Levels Rise
Residents of Terrace Trailer Park in Modesto expressed concern about the rising water levels of the Tuolumne River, but some are choosing to stay put despite evacuation orders issued by emergency officials.
The river is currently at 50 feet and flood stage is at 55 feet, with a rise expected to 53 feet by Sunday.
Sheriff’s deputies have been patrolling the area to warn neighbors and monitor the river, but some residents say they cannot leave due to the poor condition of their trailers.
Emergency officials have set up a shelter for those who choose to evacuate at the Salvation Army Red Shield.
The evacuation order is expected to last through Monday as more rain is forecasted for the area.
