Sleet Reported in New Orleans and Surrounding Areas

Residents of New Orleans and surrounding areas woke up to a cold, rainy morning with reports of sleet in some places.

The National Weather Service reported that cold air is freezing some water droplets into ice pellets.

Sleet has been reported in areas such as Covington, Madisonville, Pearl River, and Metairie.

As of 9:43 AM, temperatures in the area range from the 40s to the 50s, with strong winds making it feel even colder.

A gale warning is in effect until noon for coastal areas, with a small craft advisory in effect for area lakes.

Scattered showers are expected to continue throughout the day, with temperatures falling into the 30s and 40s overnight.

Monday morning is expected to be the coldest with temperatures in the upper 20s to low 30s in some areas.

Residents are advised to stay warm and take precautions when driving on slick roads.
