Sioux Falls, South Dakota – The closure of Wholestone Farms’ butcher shop in Sioux Falls has prompted Mayor Paul TenHaken to weigh in on the possibility of slaughterhouses being built within city limits.

The Butcher Shop, which opened in October, has been closed since last week, with the company citing no specific date for reopening.

The closure comes after a public vote last year on whether slaughterhouses should be permitted within city limits.

While Wholestone Farms had expressed interest in building such a facility, Mayor TenHaken says he hasn’t had much communication with the company since the November election.
