Century Park Elementary to remain closed following shots fired incident

Grandville, Michigan – Century Park Elementary School in Grandville will remain closed today following reports of shots fired in the area on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Wyoming Department of Public Safety, shots were fired from a car near the 5700 block of Canal Avenue, which is located behind the elementary school.

Shell casings were found in the area, and investigators are searching for an older model gray or gold sedan.

Although students and staff were forced to take cover inside the building when they heard what sounded like gunshots, investigators have stated that there is no indication that the school or students were targeted.

Superintendent Roger Barup announced that the school would be closed on Thursday to help students and staff process their emotions and feelings.

They will provide support for them when they return to class on Friday.

In a letter to parents, Barup also assured them that the district was working closely with law enforcement officials to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

He urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the Wyoming Department of Public Safety or Silent Observer.

The incident has raised concerns among parents and local residents, and the investigation is ongoing.
