Police officials from the Alam County District Attorney’s office have arrived at the scene of a shooting near Oakland City Hall. One person has been confirmed dead and police officers have been present since last night.
Our reporter James Torres is currently in Downtown Oakland providing updates on the situation. The scene remains largely unchanged, with yellow police tape cordoning off the area. The Alam County Corner’s office is preparing to transport the body to the Medical Examiner’s office.
Investigators from the police department and the District Attorney’s office are conducting their examination of the area and have established a perimeter near the city’s Internal Affairs building. Earlier this morning, James Torres spoke to a witness who works across the street, and he shared surveillance footage of the incident, although it was not made public.
More information regarding the shooting is being gathered, and we are expecting an update from the Oakland Police Department soon. The surveillance footage showed a car that is currently the focus of the investigation, followed by a police squad car. The car in question had a California exempt license plate, typically only used by law enforcement, fire departments, or state-owned vehicles.
Once the spokesperson from the Oakland Police Department arrives, we will seek clarification on this association. We will continue to provide you with any new developments as they arise.
