Tonight, we are going to see the unfolding of a suspected murder and police shooting that occurred last month in the parking lot of a police station. In the lapel video shown by KRQ News 13’s Dean Staley, we see other officers arriving on the scene.
It was a chaotic scene outside the Aria police station on October 12th. It all started with a domestic disturbance involving the exchange of children between a mother and a father. The mother had called the police expressing her concerns about the exchange, mentioning that she had just dealt with them less than an hour ago.
The police instructed her to come to the police station to ensure a peaceful exchange. Accompanying the mother was her boyfriend, Aao Lucero, who later told the police that he was worried that the father, Mark Raml, would harm her when he showed up. Lucero claimed that Raml became aggressive.
Lucero, fearing for his safety, went to his truck and retrieved his gun. Shortly after, the police received a call for assistance, saying that there were two people down.
Lucero told the police that he believed Raml was about to attack him, so he began shooting. The Sergeant who shot Lucero also provided his account of the incident, disputing the claim that Raml was acting aggressively.
State Police investigators discovered that Lucero had fired 12 rounds from his gun, resulting in Raml’s death at the scene. Lucero was shot in the back and taken to the hospital.
After being released, he was charged with murder. Unfortunately, the security camera in that area of the building was not functioning, so there is no video footage of the actual shooting.
The Sergeant who fired his weapon was an administrative employee with Aria police and did not have a lapel camera with him at the time of the shooting. State Police have now taken over the investigation. Lucero is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday for a preliminary hearing to determine if there is sufficient evidence to proceed with a trial.
State investigators have stated that Raml and the children’s Mother were involved in various investigations with CFD..
