Severe flooding and structure collapses have hit the city of South Lake Tahoe as the atmospheric river continues to pound the Tahoe Basin.
The flash flooding threat with this particular storm is significantly worse due to the historic snowpack compounded with heavy rainfall.
Businesses have been closed down due to being unsafe to occupy, and at least seven structures have collapsed across the city during the storm.
The heavy snow load has caused scenes like this, with snow piles reaching up to 30 feet tall in parking lots.
The city is cautioning against unnecessary travel for the next several weeks as the Basin struggles through the snow melts and the safety risks to come.
Avalanche control is in effect, and Caltrans has multiple crews in both directions tracking any impacts throughout the evening.
