Judge Recuses Herself from New Orleans Mayor’s Recall Petition Case Senator urges auto industry to keep AM radio accessible in new car models

Keeping AM in the Dashboard

AM radio, while not as flashy as newer technology platforms, is an important part of our public airwaves.

However, many auto manufacturers are leaving AM radio out of new cars, citing interference from electric powertrains as a reason to make it incompatible with EVs.

Senator Ed Markey has stepped in to ask manufacturers to keep AM in their future models, but some companies say it’s out while others have found a workaround using shielded high voltage cables.

It is imperative that business leaders consider the trade-offs and collateral damage of shifts in technology, as free AM broadcasting provides a lifeline for too many Americans to let it slip away.

Companies that are pulling AM radio out of their vehicles should reevaluate their decision and make the necessary investment to keep this important part of our public airwaves accessible in the dashboard.
