A tragic motorcycle crash in North County claimed the life of a San Diego Fire-Rescue captain.

The captain has been identified as Derrin Austin, a dedicated member of the department for over three decades.

The incident occurred late on Sunday night in Escondido, and despite efforts to save him, Captain Austin succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Throughout his 32-year career, Captain Austin had undertaken various roles within the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, with his most recent assignment being at the San Diego International Airport.

Additionally, he served as a Navy CB reservist for nearly 30 years, showcasing his commitment to public service.

As news of his passing spreads, plans for a memorial in honor of Captain Austin are being organized.

Although details regarding the memorial are not yet available, the community is coming together to remember the life and legacy of this esteemed individual.

Captain Austin, aged 55, leaves behind a deep void within the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and the wider community.

His dedication, experience, and selfless service will be dearly missed by his colleagues, friends, and loved ones.
