Welcome to Lena News! In breaking news today, a Russian soldier was tragically killed when the trench he dug to hide from Ukrainian strikes became his grave.
The soldier had sought refuge from Ukrainian forces, but something went wrong and a Ukrainian drone dropped a bomb on his location.
On the other hand, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched his “special military operation” in Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
While the Kremlin had initially aimed for a quick military victory, Ukraine responded with stronger-than-expected defensive efforts, supported by Western military aid, weakening Russian gains.
After over a year of conflict, Russia is still struggling to make progress, with fighting continuing in eastern Ukraine.
Following Ukraine’s counteroffensive last fall, which saw it militarily retake thousands of square miles of previously occupied land, Russia began launching missile strikes against Ukrainian civilian areas and vital infrastructure, including energy facilities, in an attempt to add pressure to force Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to agree to end the war.
