Richland County is considering providing nearly $16.5 million to an undisclosed local gun manufacturer for an expansion project that could create 100 new full-time jobs.

The County Council has not named the company, but there are indications that it may be FN, a long-time manufacturer in northeast Columbia that has served the U.S.

military.

While this expansion could bring more economic development to the area, some council members have expressed concerns about the impact of the company’s operations beyond the county.

Despite this, the council has approved the first reading of the proposal, and it will now move forward for further discussion.
