Plans to Revive Abandoned Six Flags Amusement Park in New Orleans
New Orleans has agreed on plans with local developer Bayou Phoenix to revive the abandoned Six Flags amusement park, which has sat unused since Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005.
The park was submerged by floodwaters during the hurricane and since then, attempts to redevelop the area have all failed.
The new project from Bayou Phoenix includes a sports complex, a hotel with a water park, and a movie set, with hopes that this will help New Orleans become a family-friendly destination, not just known for Bourbon Street and casinos.
The former Six Flags site is located about 14 miles outside the French Quarter, but the developers believe that this project will help travelers see more of what New Orleans has to offer.
The project will also help the local community by increasing property values in the area.
The city’s last major storm, Hurricane Ida, held up the improved levy system in New Orleans, making the site much more prepared for future hurricanes.
