Retaining wall collapse has caused the closure of two lanes of Eastbound I-580 in Livermore, California, according to Caltrans.

The collapse, which occurred on Monday, has worsened due to erosion caused by heavy rainfall in the region.

The retaining wall has now slid down the hill, and engineers are concerned that the rest of the freeway may be compromised.

Currently, only two lanes of traffic are open, causing significant delays for commuters.

Caltrans is analyzing the damage, and a team of engineers is working on a temporary fix that could take weeks to complete.

In the meantime, parks and trails remain closed, and visitors are advised to be cautious due to the treacherous conditions caused by heavy rain and runoff.
