The group leading the recall effort has requested a reaction from the commission. They have given the commission a deadline to disassociate themselves from those affiliations, but the commission has thus far refused to denounce their ties to white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups. The Enid Social Justice Committee believes that very few people were aware of these connections.
However, after Commissioner Blevins was elected, there was an increased effort to spread the word and provide evidence of his involvement in the Charlottesville march with white nationalists. Blevins has been affiliated with these hate groups for years, and he has been given multiple opportunities to deny his connection, apologize, or clarify his past. During a meeting, supporters called for Blevins to resign from office.
The chaos broke out, and the board quickly adjourned to executive session and left the room. Some individuals expressed prayers for Blevins and hoped that he finds peace and reconciliation, but they acknowledged that he will have to do so as a private citizen..
