Transitional Improvements: Helping Homeless & Formerly Incarcerated Grocery Store Shooting; 1 Injured, 1 in Custody

We begin with breaking news. Let’s turn to Darius Johnson.

Hello, Ryan and Dana. It was a chaotic night as similar incidents occurred throughout the city.

In each case, doors or windows were shattered and a few cash registers were stolen. Fortunately, no one was injured, and the Chicago police were able to apprehend those suspected of orchestrating this spree.

Take a look at this video footage taken at Cadz and Archer in the McKinley Park neighborhood. It shows individuals in a stolen Kia crashing into another car before attempting to flee on foot. Here is more recent footage from around 3:00 am.

Ganons, after being targeted at 1:30 am, was left to clean up the aftermath. The owner’s husband shared surveillance footage with us, revealing a masked group breaking the front door’s glass and subsequently ransacking the place before making their escape.

As a result, the building requires repairs, and the owner spent the whole morning attending to it. Unfortunately, the damage incurred is not significant enough to warrant an insurance payout, adding to the frustration and hard work of owning a business.

Gilner’s experience is not an isolated one. At the same intersection of Lincoln and Cullum, the Bad Apple and Wild Goose Bar in Grill were also victimized.

The Bad Apple suffered a shattered door and a missing cash register shortly after 1:00 am, while the Wild Goose had its front window shattered after 1:30 am. To provide further context, these incidents began last night around 11:00 pm, affecting multiple areas including Lincoln Square, North Center, Bridgeport, and McKinley Park. Most of the affected establishments in this spree were businesses, restaurants, a coffee shop, and even a real estate business.

It remains to be seen how Chicago police will establish connections between all the incidents. Reporting live from North Center, this is Darius Johnson for CBS2 News..
