Eyewitness News anchor Shirleen Allicot is hosting a special program called “Protect Our Children: Surviving the System” in honor of National Foster Care Month.
The program is set to focus on the experiences of children caught up in the foster care and juvenile justice systems in the US, which is home to roughly 400,000 children in the foster care system.
Lorraine Bronco, an Academy Award-nominated actress and passionate advocate for the right to foster children, is among the people working to improve the lives of foster kids.
One organization leading the charge is the Felix Organization, a nonprofit that sends around 500 foster kids to seven different Camp Felix locations in New York and California every summer.
The camp provides a fun-filled getaway for foster children to forget about their situation and just enjoy being a kid.
Tune in to Channel 7 tomorrow night at 7:00 to hear more inspirational stories about the foster care system and the people helping kids navigate through it.
