Former President Donald Trump may be facing a historic moment with a potential indictment stemming from a Manhattan grand jury probe involving an alleged payment of $130,000 in hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels.

The investigation is focused on whether or not Trump violated state and federal law by allegedly making this payment to silence Daniels about an alleged affair.

Trump’s team has claimed the payment was for legal expenses, but NBC News reports that it was never reported in campaign finance records.

The indictment could have political and legal implications for Trump, as he prepares for a potential 2024 reelection campaign.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has already called the move by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office an “outrageous abuse of power.” Another witness is expected to testify before the grand jury on Monday, but it’s unclear if this will be the final witness before a vote is taken on whether or not to indict Trump.
