Winnipeg Police Identify Woman Found Dead near Red River, Launch Homicide Investigation
Winnipeg police have made significant progress in the case of a woman whose partial remains were discovered along a riverbank in South Point Douglas last month.
The victim has been identified as 40-year-old June Christine Johnson.
Authorities are treating her death as a homicide.
During the investigation, the police received numerous tips that helped identify Johnson.
She was last seen in downtown Winnipeg in February before her body was found near Curtis Street and Higgins Avenue on April 15th.
Family members described Johnson as a loving and devoted mother who struggled with addiction.
In a statement, Johnson’s family expressed their grief and shared fond memories of her.
“She loved hard, and family was of great importance to her.
June had a great sense of humor that was contagious.
We will cherish the good times and memories we shared with her,” the family said.
The police are appealing to the public for any information about Johnson’s whereabouts or interactions between February and March.
Johnson was known to frequent the downtown area, and any details could potentially aid the ongoing investigation.
The identification of the victim marks an important step forward in the case, bringing hope for justice as the police intensify their efforts to find the person or persons responsible for this tragic crime.
